Sandwich

Nominated For :
Favourite Artist Of Philippines
Ten years old and still riding high on their immense popularity, Raimund Marasigan (Vocals, Guitar), Diego Castillo (Guitars), Mike Dizon (Drums), Myrene Academia (Bass) and Mong Alcaraz (Guitars), together known as Sandwich, has come a long way.

In 1998, their debut album Grip Stand Throw turned Sandwich into overnight sensations, along with winning Album of the Year in NU 107 Rock Awards 1999, and Song Of The Year for carrier single, “Butterfly Carnival.” Accolades continued well into 2001 with the release of their sophomore album, Four Track Mind, it having also bagged that year’s Album of the Year in aforementioned Awards.

Thanks To The Moon’s Gravitaitonal Pull (2003) rocketed the band into indie-cool rock stardom, while 2005 marked a year of change for the band with the new addition of Mong Alcaraz, after Marc Abaya decided to quit. With a new and improved lineup, musical direction overhaul, and even a new home with EMI, 2006 looked set to be bigger and brighter.

Their fourth album, Five On The Floor, explored varied musical realms in songwriting, instrumentals, harmonies, tempo and groove, song arrangements and recording techniques. “Sugod,” the album’s electrifying carrier single, burned its way up the charts.

To celebrate surpassing the trials and tribulations, and the success of their first decade together, Sandwich ushered their tenth anniversary in with a new, aptly-titled album, <S> Marks The Spot.

Sandwich was invited to take part and represent Philippines in the first AYAF (Asian Youth Arts Festival) in Shenzhen, China last September, and was awarded Judge’s Choice Award alongside ten other countries.
