Chicosci
Nominated For :Favourite Artist Of Philippines
What started as an after-school activity morphed into a full-time passion and profession for Filipino pop rock group CHICOSCI. In 2000, vocalist Miguel Chavez, guitarist Mong Alcaraz, bassist Carlos Calderon, drummer Joel Salvador, and former guitarist Sonny Baquisal inked a two-album record deal with EMI-Virgin Philippines.
The band released their debut and sophomore efforts Revenge of the Giant Robot (2000) and Method of Breathing (2002) respectively. Their first single “Sink or Swim” established the band’s reputation as one of the forerunners of the new generation of rock.
Method of Breathing further cemented that reputation as the single from the album, “ Paris”, dominated the charts for over a year, ultimately winning NU 107’s Song of the Year award in 2002, as well as Best Produced Album.
In 2004, the band released their third offering Icarus under Viva Records. The album was responsible for bringing the band to even greater heights when they were named MTV’s Lokal Artist of the Month in May 2004.
CHICOSCI finally found mainstream success in 2006 with their self-titled fourth album under MCA-Universal Music. With catchier melodies, the new album successfully reconciles the band’s distinct sound with MTV-generation pop sensibilities.
CHICOSCI is making waves across the region, and has even opened for American big-name acts like Fall Out Boy and Good Charlotte during the Philipines leg of their tours.
Right now, with the newest addition to the group, guitarist Ariel Lumanlan, CHICOSCI is busy promoting their album and touring. The band has also hinted at a new album by the end of 2008.
